It is mathematically impossible. You cannot end an infinite sequence with a 1, by the very nature of infinite.
So you can't have 0.11111111... ?
Yes you can. You don't end it with a 1, do you?

New topic: What's your calculator?
Mine's CASIO fx 9860G SD.
I make some good games for it.

Graphic calculators, yes.
One of them is Bang!
You set the angle, the speed of the shot, and *bang!*. Try to hit the enemy's fort!
Sorry, no english version.

I wish I had a gaming calculator.

-.- It doesn't actually exist, but you don't need one to play games.
Just have a good CASIO calculator.

Here's a screen capture of my game (It's an old version, but the differences aren't sharp)

TIs can do it to. I have a TI-83Plus and it can have games made for it. Than language is murder though, worse than Visual Basic.

Anonymous1157 17 years ago
That's because VB is a rapid-dev language, silly. Practically everything else is harder than rapid-dev languages to some degree.

My calculator doesn't have a USB port, but I heard that there's a way to attach one that works with a lot of calculators. I'm going to do some research on it.

It's a 3-pin cable, this type of cable is used to connect between calculators.

No I mean not in complexity, VB is easy for that. Murder in trying to get it to do what you want, not what pre-defined statements want. Vb is easy, but not to make complex things in, in short I HATE VB

What, what's this? TI's have a BASIC language? Wait Visual basic?

Speaking of TI's though, did anyone that's done college ever encounter anything an 84 + couldn't do? I'm struggling to decide between an 84+ and an 89 Titanium. Maybe the 89 for GTA... That would be fun in maths.
#
E_net4 17 years ago
Don't expect GTA on calculators, right now!
And there's no basic nor Visual Basic. Both TI and CASIO calculators have their own programming language, which is similar to Basic.

I wasnt expecting anything. I wish people could somewhat make more sense of my posts.

GTA is already on the TI-89: http://www.ticalc.org/pub/89/basic/games/gta89.zip.

With basic I was reffering to Anonymous's post on VB being a "rapid dev" language. I don't know about Casio, but all TI's have a BASIC Language. And Assembly.

Solus Lupus 17 years ago
Ok then let me rephrase all I said. "I strongly dislike the programing language Visual Basic for its simplicity, the same simplicity that makes it hard for ME to work with. The TIs use a similar language and the one I have it take billions of menus to do anything on."

For us, the end of the world would be quite the same as the end of the universe, seeing how both cases would result in the eradication of the human race, which, funny enough, includes us forumers.

With the difference that the end of the universe would have a restaurant, while the end of the world only has a bunch of bad poets.

EDIT quit posting when I'm posting - you're breaking my context.

Firstly, I said that it'd be the same for us who live on Earth, which we sometimes refer to as "the world". Of COURSE it would NOT be the same for the rest of the habitants in this particular universe.

In same manner, whether you'd kill only one person, or the aforementioned person AND everyone else in the same room would have little to no difference for that one person, seeing as he'd be dead in either case.

In a more on-topic note, I've been having fun with the number 23, which is quite an important number for Discordians (dunno who/what they are? Search Wiki and/or Google for Discordianism), and only a step away from the number which they consider to be holy (i.e. 5). As a silly coincidence, the number of times one must use the number 23 to make a calculation with the result being 42 is the EXACT SAME as one must stack 10s to form the binary equivalent of 42.

0
is the EXACT SAME

as one must stack 10s to form the binary equivalent of 42.
3

Yet, 0 != 3, IMO.

Allow me to clarify...

IF one is forced to utilize numbers 2 and 3 as pairs to perform a calculation that would result in 42, the minimum amount of the 23-pairs would be three.

To prove it, I present you with the calculation:

( -2 + 3 + 2 * 3 ) * 2 * 3 = 42

As you can see, there are exactly three pairs of 2 and 3 that make up the calculation.
#
Amarth 17 years ago
Ah... Well, I could do it with 2.5 times the number 23, but I guess that doesn't count.

EDIT: unless I am allowed to use non-standard functions, of course . And I consider exponentiating a standard function.

You can use whatever functions you want, as long as you use no variables, and only numbers 2 and 3 in pairs.

Oh, and you can't use any other silly letterific symbols, either.

New Topic: It's an easy (very easy) Maths problem, so don't post the solution right away.
I made a small, square-formed, floor out of 16 tiles (4x4). For that, I placed the tiles randomly, which had 3 colors (white, black and blue).
a) What's the chance (%) to have a completely white floor?
b) What's the chance (%) to have a floor which is blue on all corners of the floor?
#
Amarth 17 years ago
c) what is the chance of having at least one white, blue and black tile on each row?

SPOIL If I'm right, it's about 3.9%, but I'm not really sure. I'm pretty sure about E_net4's questions, though, and they're both smaller than this.
#
E_net4 17 years ago
Well... it looks harder, but not that much.
Lemme think:
The chance to get a certain combination would be 1/X^Y. X is the number of colors(3) and Y is the number of tiles(16), so: 1/3^16. That would be the answer to a).
The answer to b) has to do with the chance to simply have at least 4 blue tiles. Here's my unsure theory. The chance would be: 1/X^Y/ Z, Z is the total of combinations with the said tiles(the tiles of the corner, as in 4): (3^4) .
The chance is [u]1 /3^16/81

c)First I think we need a combination so that all rows have at least black, blue and white: A-White B-Blue C-Black 0- Not specified.
AAAA
BBBB
CCCC
0000

According to my theory, the chance is 1/X^Y/Z, and we know that Z is the total combinations with the specified tiles, the non-specified don't actually count. So Z might be: (3^12)
I think the chance is: 1/3^16/3^12.
Still, I'm not sure if my theory's right.
